What is covered by compulsory liability insurance and who is obliged to contract this insurance?

Damages caused by liability for damage due to bodily injury, damage to health or death of a third person are covered. Third persons shall not be considered as persons on board a motorboat or a motor-powered motorcycle causing damage and persons on board another boat, yacht, ship or other craft. Every owner of the vessel, any other natural or legal person who, with the will of the owner, actually disposes of the vessel, registered on the Croatian flag, and whose power exceeds 15kW, is obligatory contract that insurance.

What is a yacht?

A vessel for sports and recreation whose length is greater than 12 meters and which, besides the crew, is authorized transport up to 12 passengers.

What is the boat?

A vessel intended for sailing by sea which is not a ship or yacht (or a boat intended for navigation to inland waters which is not a ship or a floating object), and whose total power of the propulsion machinery
exceeds 5 kW;

How much is the insured sum and what depends on the premium?

The amount secured is prescribed by the Law on Obligatory Traffic Insurance and amounts to HRK 3,500,000.00. The insurance premium depends on the vessels’s engine power and its use, i.e. whether it is a passenger vessel or a passenger economic activity (hire or transport of passengers).

Does the insurance cover the claims of the injured person in the event of damage to the damage Regatta?

On the basis of liability insurance, the owners of the boat or the yacht are excluded from the claims the damaged person who suffered damage due to the use of a boat or yacht in sports events, which aims at achieving the highest or highest average speed, or on exercises for these events.

What is the territorial validity of this insurance?

Insurance coverage is provided for navigation by territorial sea, inland
sea waters and inland waters of the Republic of Croatia, if not otherwise
contracted.
